Youth 2000: A National Secondary School Youth Health Survey
New Zealand’s current generation of youth have rates
of unintended pregnancy, suicide and self harm that are
among the highest in the Western World. These poor outcomes
are preventable; yet, as a nation, New Zealand has made
poor progress in meeting these challenges. Traditional approaches
of addressing risk and problems are limited. International
research indicates that comprehensive interventions at many
levels - government, community, family, school and individual
- are required to make a difference. Furthermore, interventions
that incorporate positive youth development interventions
are proving to be effective in improving the health and
well-being of all youth.
